[RxPG] Port of Spain, May 4 - Cricket gurus in the Caribbean region have hailed Ramnaresh Sarwan's elevation as the captain of the West Indies cricket team.
'I heard Viv - spoke highly about Sarwan and the relationship he has with the players. Hopefully he - gets the support of his team mates and does not suffer the fate Shivanarine Chanderpaul did,' said Dudnath Ramkessoon, chairman of the Trinidad and Tobago selection committee.
Ramkessoon, who is also the first vice-president of the Trinidad and Tobago cricket board, said that Sarwan will need to find balance in his game because the 'burden of captaincy will affect his batting, especially when in charge of a losing team'.
Darren Ganga was the other logical choice for the position because of his accomplishments in captaining Trinidad and Tobago, but he has not been able to establish himself in the West Indies team and this worked against him.
Former West Indies spinner, Rangy Nanan noted that Sarwan was the logical choice for the West Indies Cricket Board as he was the vice-captain under Brian Lara and Chanderpaul.
'He is respected by the team and hopefully he can rally the players and instil pride, belief, desire to play under him to ensure success,' said Nanan.
Nanan added that Sarwan's new ideas would bring a boost to a team which has suffered immensely after their dismal showing at the World Cup.
