Dhaka, April 16 - The family of a Hindu judge killed here two years ago fears for life after the public prosecutor who got seven Islamist militants convicted for the killing was himself shot dead last week.

Biswanath Pandey, brother of judge Jagannath Pandey, has complained to police that the family is unable to move safely and has sought protection.

The killing of advocate Haider Hussein, who conducted the case as the public prosecutor of Jhlakathi in Barisal district, has made Pandey's family apprehensive of retaliatory action by cadres of Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh -.

JMB is a proscribed body whose top brass, including chief Shaikh Abdur Rahman and Siddiqul Islam alias Bangla Bhai, were convicted for the killing of Pandey and another judge, Sohel Ahmed.

Six of them were hanged last month, while a seventh convict is at large.

Sultan Ahmed Khan, complainant in the judges murder case, and driver of the bombed car Ibrahim Sardar, also a witness of the case, other witnesses, and officials related with the trial of the case have also expressed concern about the JMB's possible revenge, The Daily Star reported.

Aminul Islam, deputy inspector general of police of Barisal range, said special security arrangements with law enforcers both in uniform and plainclothes have been made for the family of the judges and those connected with the case.
