[RxPG] Dhaka, Mar 17 - Bangladesh's caretaker government has said it would try to secure the custody of one of the killers of the country's first president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman nabbed in the US, as it paid homage to the slain founding father of the nation after a gap of five years.
With the three military chiefs in attendance, Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed laid floral wreaths and offered prayer at Rahman's grave in his hometown Tungipara in Gopalganj, some 80 km from here, to mark his 87th birth anniversary, Star Online said.
Although acknowledged as the founding father of the nation - Bangladesh seceded from Pakistan and came into being as an independent state after the war of 1971 - Mujibur Rahman's role has been a subject of controversy, depending upon the political line of the party in power.
The governments of Begum Khaleda Zia - had chosen to highlight the role of another president and freedom fighter, Gen. Ziaur Rahman of Pakistan.
However, the Ahmed government, in a display of strict neutrality, has said it would pay similar homage to Mujibur Rahman as well.
However, it has stepped up action against Mujibur's killer, some of whom are convicted, while others are at large.
A.K.M. Mohiuddin Ahmed, a former army major convicted for Mujibur's killing in August 1975, awaits deportation after losing a long asylum battle in California.

'He will have to come back to the country if he doesn't get asylum in any other country after being deported from the US. It is almost certain that the US will not allow him to stay there,' Hossain told The Daily Star newspaper.
