Dhaka, Feb 27 - A top Indian executive escaped unhurt as was rescued from Monday's fire here that engulfed a building where his office was located, killing three people and injuring over a hundred others.

'Life is beautiful! I understand it more than ever before,' Ashok Jha, country director of Hindustan Petroleum, said after coming down with the help of the fire fighters.

'It is a horrible experience... three hours of waiting for death,' he was quoted as telling his rescuers and the waiting media by the New Age newspaper Tuesday.

The Bangladesh Government has ordered a high level inquiry into the fire in the 11-storeyed Bangladesh Steel and Engineering Corporation Bhaban at Karwan Bazar in the heart of the capital.

Khaleda Farzana, a member of the newsroom staff of the private television channel NTV, burst into tears after climbing down a retractable ladder from the rooftop of the building.

'I cannot say what happened. It was a miracle,' she said.

More than 200 people, including women and children, spent about four hours on the rooftop after the fire broke out. Many fell sick.

Equipment of three private television channels, the NTV, the RTV and the Islamic TV, which are housed in the building, was burnt. So were the offices of a number of private companies. The television channels have been off the air since the incident.
