Dhaka, March 15 - Indian High Commissioner Pinak Ranjan Chakravarty has handed over a letter from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to Awami League leader and former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
The contents of the letter were not disclosed.
Delivered Wednesday by the envoy on the eve of her departure to the US, it was noted as 'significant' in diplomatic circles, but appeared to have been played down in the media here.
The New Age newspaper noted the letter has been written in 'the backdrop of major changes in the political landscape at home -'.
Hasina, who has enjoyed good relations with Indian leadership, left Thursday on a month-long book-writing sabbatical.
Inheriting her father's political legacy, Hasina has been prime minister - and was leader of opposition.
She will have a medical check-up, and possibly surgery on her ears damaged during an attack on a rally she was addressing in August 2004. Her son Sajeb Joy lives in the US.
