Six Bangladeshi militants to be executed

[RxPG] Dhaka, March 25 - Six top Bangladeshi militants convicted for the murder of two judges are to hang between April 13 and 19. President Iajuddin Ahmed has rejected their mercy petitions, prison authorities announced.
The six belong to the Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh -: Shaikh Abdur Rahman, his deputy Siddiqul Islam alias Bangla Bhai, Rahman's brother Ataur Rahman Sunny, his son-in-law Abdul Awal, Khalid Saifullah and suicide bomber Iftekhar Al Mamun.
Deputy Inspector General of Prisons Major Shamsul Haider Siddiqui said Saturday evening that the home ministry had forwarded to him the rejected mercy petitions.
The presidential decision comes even as the government is continuing a drive against JMB and other banned Islamist radical bodies. The JMB, with its bases in Rajshahi and Pabna districts, has been specially targeted.
The six were convicted for killing two senior judges - Sohel Ahmed and Jagannath Pandey - in a bomb attack on Nov 14, 2005. A seventh convict, Arif, is at large.
Jail sources said the men would be informed about their fate only two hours before the execution and close relatives allowed to visit them.
The prison authorities have completed arrangements for the execution and taken additional security measures in the jails where they are lodged. They were convicted on Aug 30 last year.
