[RxPG] Chittagong, May 15 - The third and final India-Bangladesh One-day International was cancelled Tuesday after overnight trains rendered the outfield soggy and not a single ball could be bowled. India won the series 2-0.
India had won both matches in Dhaka last week, and will now play two Test matches starting here Friday.
Interestingly, the cyclonic storm that was forecast for Chittagong did not affected the venue at all.
The few thousands spectators who came to the Bir Shrestha Shahid Ruhul Amin Stadium hoping to see some action, especially when the sun finally shone brightly after 1 p.m., were hugely disappointed.
They expressed their disappointment by throwing empty mineral water bottles on to the field and on the security personnel on duty near the boundary line.
About 3,000 still stayed back for the prize distribution ceremony, though they were far from the pavilion in front of which it was held.
After the sun finally broke through after 1 p.m., for the first time in two days, the umpires decided that the soggy outfield was not fit enough to play the match. Umpires Asoka de Silva of Sri Lanka and Enamul Haque of Bangladesh had a discussion with captains Rahul Dravid and Habibul Bashar before announcing their decision.
The pitch, however, was unaffected as it was covered well.
The first five-day Test will be played at the same venue. The second match will be played in Dhaka from May 25.
