[RxPG] New Delhi, Feb 13 - Bajaj Auto Ltd, India's leading two-wheeler manufacturer for decades, is finally eyeing an entry into the car market that is expanding with the growing middle class.
'Within two years we are planning to enter the four-wheeler segment,' Bajaj Auto joint managing director Rajiv Bajaj said here Tuesday.
'Currently we are on a lookout for land in Maharashtra and Uttarakhand,' he said.
The company would enter the fiercely competitive car market 'at the right time', he added.
Meanwhile, Bajaj Auto Tuesday launched yet another high-end edition bike - Pulsar 200cc DTSi.
The new bike, in the premium series that includes Pulsar 150cc DTSi and Pulsar 180cc DTSi, will be manufactured at Bajaj's Chaukan plant near Pune and is priced at Rs.65,497 -.
'This bike is launched for the niche market and I believe there is a market for high-end bikes like these in India,' Bajaj told a press conference.
He said the company would launch another high-end bike in May as it plans to shift to the higher segment from the general range of 100cc bikes.
'We will be launching another high-end bike called Pulsar 220 in the month of May,' Bajaj said.
The production of the Pulsar series will be scaled up to 50,000 units a month, he said.
