Kamal Nath to talk on global trade in Oxford

New Delhi, May 2 - Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath will deliver a talk on India and its position in the ongoing global trade talks at the Oxford University Thursday.

During his visit to Britain, he is expected to meet British Prime Minister Tony Blair and hold several bilateral discussions with Alistair Darling, British secretary of state for trade and industry, said an official statement.

He will also be participating in the Indo-UK Joint Economic and Trade Committee - review meeting, which was established in September 2004 to look into the enhancement of bilateral trade and investment between the two countries.

According to the statement, bilateral trade between the two countries has reached $9 billion in 2005-06 from $6.2 billion in 2003-04.

India also reported a trade surplus in 2005-06 as its exports to Britain rose to $5.1 billion while imports registered a $3.8 billion rise in 2005-06.
