New Delhi, May 2 - India's leading telecom service provider Reliance Communications Wednesday launched mobile handsets for as low as Rs.777 -, for the first time in India.

The price of the handsets - named as Classic 202, Classic 204 and Classic 203 - starts from Rs.777 and goes up to Rs.888 with facility of payment in instalments.

'Through our new Classic range of feature rich handsets, we are confident of extending the benefits of mobility to an entirely new segment of population in metros, small cities as well as rural hinterland of India,' said S.P. Shukla, president, personal business, Reliance Communications.

The Anil Ambani-controlled company recently reported a turnover of Rs.174.40 billion and a net profit of Rs.35.26 billion for the quarter ending March 31.

The company, which provides broadband and telephony services in the country and operates a global fibre optics network, said it would invest Rs.100 billion this year as capital expenditure towards expansion.

Reliance Communications, which has a subscriber base of 30 million and more than 12,000 towers to cater to its growing mobile telecommunications business, also said it is hiving off some entities as separate company.
