Gurgaon, March 6 - Tejpal Jaitley, father of the two NRI girls who were allegedly kidnapped and found later in Mumbai, was produced in a city court here Tuesday for firing at policemen. He was sent to 14 days judicial custody.

Jaitley allegedly opened fire at a group of policemen, who went to deliver court summons to vacate the property he was illegally occupying in Beverley Apartments, MG Road. No one was injured in the firing Monday, police said.

Jaitley, a doctor by profession, was arrested on charges of attempt to murder.

He has been staying in the Beverly Apartments house for the past three years and has apparently not paid the rent amounting to Rs.1.2 million to the owner.

On Feb 25, Jaitley's daughters - Aditi and Ruchi - were thought to have been abducted from a prominent mall in Gurgaon. It later turned out that they had willingly flown to Mumbai with their brother Vipul.

Jaitley was accused of having given false information about his daughters' abduction.

'We are interrogating him at length after his dubious behaviour in both the cases,' said Sumit Kumar, deputy superintendent of police -.
