New Delhi, Feb 5 - Over 100 representatives from 87 British universities have come together for the British Council's bi-annual Education UK exhibition 2007, which will travel to six cities across the country starting with New Delhi.
Britain is fast emerging as one of the favoured destinations of Indian students wanting to pursue higher studies. Over 23,000 Indians are currently studying in Britain and the number is growing at the rate of 18 percent per year.
Shorter duration of courses, which saves both time and money, is a major reason behind the growing popularity of British institutes, apart from quality education.
'We have a huge number of Indian students in our university and we want the number to increase even more,' said a representative of the University of Dundee.
The exhibition, which is on at the capital Monday and Tuesday, gives students an opportunity to explore the possibility of studying a course of their choice in a particular university. Among the courses that are high in demand are biotechnology, business and management, media and law.
Nandini, an undergraduate student of Delhi University, wants to do her postgraduate studies in biotechnology at the University of Leeds.
'I want to go to Leeds but with a scholarship. This exhibition gives me a good platform to talk to representatives of that university and weigh my options,' she said.
Other than stalls of various British universities whereby students can learn about the courses offered, admission procedures and fees, there are various subject seminars conducted on law, art and design and IT and engineering. This gives aspiring students an overall idea about the scope of the subject in Britain.
There are also seminars on scholarships, which the students can avail for their further studies there.
The exhibition will later travel to Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai and Pune.
