Cinema to be part of Kerala school curriculum
Mar 23, 2007 - 2:01:53 PM

Thiruvananthapuram, March 23 - Kerala's Education Minister M.A. Baby Friday informed the state assembly that film appreciation would soon be introduced in school curriculum.

'The School Curriculum Committee is now considering the revision of the school curriculum to see that this happens,' said Baby, in response to a question raised in the assembly by Simon Britto.

Baby added that film clubs and cine festivals would also become a part of higher secondary schools and high schools in the state.

When asked about such an inclusion, Malayalam superstar Mammootty said that cinema should be kept an optional subject.

'Not all students may be keen to learn about films and if it is made compulsory, the charm is lost. The need of the hour should be to promote this as a subject in schools and only the really interested should come forward to learn it,' Mammootty told IANS.

He added that this was, however, his personal opinion.
