Protest against sex education in Jharkhand schools
Apr 24, 2007 - 12:54:30 PM

Ranchi, April 24 - A Muslim organisation is protesting against a government plan to introduce sex education in Jharkhand schools.

The human resource development ministry's proposal to begin sex education for Class 6-12 students from June has evoked the ire of the Islamic Students Organisation of India -.

The ISOI, which organised a rally here Tuesday, has also started a signature campaign against the government plan.

'We are shocked and surprised by the ministry's move to introduce sex education in schools. How will we digest the fact that a 10-year-old boy or girl will be taught how to use a condom?' asked ISOI's state unit president Sarik Ansari.

He said: 'This is a serious matter and the government should opt for other ways to create awareness among students and public. The ministry's move seems to be motivated by multinational companies that are forcing the government to introduce such things in schools.'

The ISOI is also planning to seek support from other student bodies like the Students Federation of India -, National Students Union of India - and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad - to pressurise the government to withdraw the plan.
