May 2, 2007 - 8:52:44 AM

Kochi, May 2 - With all Vishu releases still going good, the surprise winner is director Sathyan Anthikad's 'Vinodayathra'.

The top five Malayalam films are:

1. 'Vinodayathra' - Dileep appears as the protagonist in a Sathyan Anthikad film for the first time and the team clicks. The film has Meera Jasmine as the female lead. The right balance of humour and sentiment has worked well for the veteran director.

2. 'Big B' - Amal Neerad, the young cameraman-turned-director, who has worked with the likes of Ram Gopal Varma, has succeeded in making a slick action thriller with Mammootty in the main lead.

3. 'Chotta Mumbai' - Director Anwar Rasheed's second outing after 'Rajamanickam' is an unpretentious entertainer with Mohanlal in the lead. Scriptwriter Benny P. Nayarambalam deserves equal credit for the success of the film.

4. 'Athisayan' - Director Vinayan tries to cash in on the vacation period with a fantasy film targeting kids. The film has ensemble cast that consists of big names like Jackie Shroff, Jayasurya, Mukesh and Kavya Madhavan.

5. 'Panthayakozhi' - This film tries to project young Narain as a star attraction, but has to settle for the fifth position.
