Baghdad, May 18 - Three Iraqi policemen were killed and two others wounded Friday in an attack south of the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, a police source said.

A suicide bomber driving a car bomb blew himself up near a police checkpoint in Jarf al-Sakhr village, 60 kilometres south of Baghdad, the source added.

Three US soldiers were killed and one wounded Thursday when a roadside bomb went off near their patrol south of Baghdad, as search operations for three missing US soldiers continued, the US military and media reports said.

The three soldiers were reported missing after an attack Saturday to the west of the town of Mahmudiya, 35 kilometres south of Baghdad, in which four servicemen and an Iraqi were killed.

A militant group calling itself the Iraqi Islamic State published a statement online Sunday saying they were holding hostage the three 'soldiers of the cross.'

US-led coalition forces detained six suspected terrorists Friday morning during raids in north-east Baghdad, the US military announced.

One Iraqi civilian received minor injuries during the course of the operations.
