Five US soldiers killed in Iraq

Baghdad, March 12 - At least five US soldiers were killed and three wounded in separate incidents in Iraq since Sunday, the US military sources said.

A marine of Multi National Force - West was killed while conducting combat operations in the volatile Anbar province in western Iraq, a military statement said Monday.

Another soldier, assigned to Multi national Division - Baghdad, was killed and two injured in a roadside bomb while their unit was supporting 'an ongoing air assault mission southwest of the Iraqi capital,' another statement said.

In Salahudin province, north of Baghdad, a soldier of Task Force Lightning Soldiers was killed and another injured in an explosion while conducting combat operations, a statement said without specifying the cause of the explosion.

Two more soldiers died Sunday in separate non-combat related incidents in Baghdad, the military statement said, adding that the two incidents are under investigation.

Since the US-led war in Iraq broke out in March 2003, about 3,195 US soldiers have been killed in the country, according to media count based on Pentagon figures.
