[RxPG] Bhopal, Dec 14 - Terming it as a 'citizens raid', Bhopal gas tragedy survivors' organisations claimed to have seized a large number of sub-standard and expired drugs from two medical stores of the Bhopal Gas Tragedy Relief and Rehabilitation Department.
'A joint team of four organisations, working for the victims of the world's worst man-made industrial disaster, recovered many medicines that had crossed their expiry date,' Rachna Dhingra of Bhopal Group of Information and Action - said.
Addressing a press conference, she said of the 83 samples collected, more than 30 had passed their expiry date. The outdated medicines were antibiotics such as norfloxacin, ampicillin and tetracyclin.
Members of three other survivors' organisations - Bhopal Gas Peedit Mahila Stationery Karmachari Sangh -, Bhopal Gas Peedit Mahila Purush Sangharsh Morcha - and Bhopal ki Awaaz - - were also present on the occasion.
'More than half of the samples collected were of medicines manufactured in Indore which is notorious for manufacturing spurious drugs,' they said.
The activists alleged that despite the Supreme Court directives to send random samples of medicines for test at reputed laboratories, the state government has not taken any step in this regard.
