[RxPG] New Delhi, May 13 - Delhi Police Sunday recovered the decomposed body of a man from his residence in east Delhi, much to the surprise of his father living in the same place who was unaware of it.

Police said the decomposed body of Chandan Chakarvarti, 39, was recovered after neighbours complained of a 'foul smell' emanating from the flat in Pocket 1 of Mayur Vihar, Phase I.

As police searched the house, they found Chandan lying dead on his bed.

Chandan's father Kanti Chakarvarti, 72, told police that he thought that his son was in deep slumber under the influence of liquor. He said that once or twice he even went to his room to awake him, but as he did not respond to his call, he did not think it fit to disturb him further.

He told police that he never even imagined that his son was lying dead in another room. He said he did not smell the foul odour, probably owing to his own age.

Police said Chandan, who earlier worked as accountant with Lucknow-based Bajaj Auto Link, was jobless for the last three years and was staying with his father here.

His wife Mallika too stayed in the same flat with their nine-year-old son, but the couple's relationship was strained due to his financial instability and alcoholism.

The wife had been staying at her parents' home at Vasundhra in Ghaziabad for the last few days, police said.
