May 13, 2007 - 10:37:44 PM

New Delhi, May 13 - Delhi Police were groping in the dark to nab the man who abducted a 23-year-old woman and raped her in his car in the capital.

The incident occurred May 4, when the woman had visited Gurudwara Bangla Sahib to pray for her ailing daughter.

When she was returning home, the man in his Maruti-800 car offered her a lift. She got into the car and the man drove her to a desolate place in the city where he raped her before forcing her out of the car.

The matter was reported to police only four days later as the woman was said to be in a state of shock.

Police, after medical examination of the victim, registered a case of rape and abduction and were looking for the culprit.

Meanwhile, police arrested Raveendra, 20, on the charge of raping a five-year-old girl in Nand Nagri area in northeast Delhi Sunday morning.
