Former STPI director to head SemIndia operations

Bangalore, Jan 12 - Former director of the Software Technology Parks of India - B.V. Naidu will head SemIndia operations to drive the semiconductor industry growth in the sub-continent, said SemIndia chairman and CEO Vinod Agarwal here Friday.

As managing director of SemIndia fabcity in Hyderabad and SemIndia Systems Ltd, a product development firm here, Naidu will oversee the execution of the $3 billion chip fabrication project on the outskirts of Hyderabad.

'We are taking the early move advantage of driving the semiconductor industry growth in partnership with the union government and the Andhra Pradesh government by creating a hi-tech manufacturing eco-system,' he said.

'The ambitious project, to be executed in two phases, will have a ATMP - unit and a fab facility to manufacture chips - for domestic and global players, including fabless and integrated device manufacturers,' Agarwal told reporters.

As director of STPI in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh since 1992, Naidu was instrumental in driving the Indian software export industry and creating the techno economic eco system in Bangalore and Hyderabad.

Currently, Bangalore and Hyderabad software firms account for a whopping 53 percent of India's software exports.

Promoted by technocrats, entrepreneurs and semicon experts in partnership with AMD, Flextronics and Indian Semiconductor Association -, SemIndia plans to tranform India into a global hub for sourcing chips in the range of 90nm -, 65nm and 45nm.
