New Delhi, Nov 23 - The government was committed to minimise difficulties faced by air travellers during winter and measures were being undertaken to ensure the smooth movement of air traffic during the period, the Lok Sabha was informed Thursday.

'The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has drawn up the schedule of airlines during the low visibility period taking into consideration the number of CAT-II and CAT-III trained pilots available with the airlines,' Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel told the lower house of parliament.

With the assistance of the CAT-III system, planes can make a landing with a runway visibility of less than 200 metres. The Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi is the only Indian airport equipped with such a system.

'The airport operator has introduced new taxiways, is commissioning additional parking stands, new generation 'follow-me' vehicles with high intensity flashing lights to facilitate operations during low visibility conditions and RT sets for communication,' Patel said.
