Monsoons to become drier in India: report

New Delhi, Feb 5 - India will experience dry monsoons, due to severe climatic changes, apart from other serious impacts which will be caused by heat waves, high temperature, extreme precipitation and severe drought, according to a report.
India is under a threat of increased glacier retreat, rising sea level and quicker precipitation, said an International Panel on Climate Change - report.
'Monsoons are going to bring less and less rain to India. India is going to be impacted by heat waves, high temperature, precipitation and severe droughts,' R.K. Pachauri, head, Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change told a press conference here.
'The Himalayas are going to be majorly affected, while precipitation changes are going to affect the people who depend on rain,' he added.
This comes after the IPCC released a worldwide report in Paris, which was attended by 300 delegates from 113 countries.
According to Pachauri, the snow cover in northern hemisphere is gradually decreasing and mankind is soon going to experience warmer nights more.
'The Arctic is warming twice the rate of rest of the world,' Pachauri, director general and chairman of TERI - said.
While indicating from the report that drought is increasing in most places, Pachauri said: 'India and China will both experience frequent droughts.'
Citing steps to check these alarming effects of climate change, he urged the human society to change its behavioural pattern and develop a roadmap on reducing the intensity of carbon emission.
