Jammu, May 9 - A man accused of murder killed himself by slitting his throat in a police station in Jammu and Kashmir, said police officials here Wednesday.

A magisterial probe has been ordered into Abdul Rashid's suicide in Rajouri district Tuesday evening, they added.

Rashid, who is in his early 30s and was arrested in connection with the murder of two Hindus in the area two weeks ago, slit his throat with a knife when he was brought out of his cell to go to the toilet.

He was taken to a hospital, but was declared brought dead.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Rajouri, Farooq Khan, told IANS over telephone: 'Serious note has been taken of the laxity of the police officials on duty. The station house officer and two of the policemen on duty that time have been suspended.'

The Deputy Commissioner of Rajouri has also ordered a magisterial probe into the incident.

Locals allege that Rashid ended his life because he could not take any more of the police 'torture'.
