'Super thief' arrested in Delhi

New Delhi, April 14 - A notorious thief involved in at least 550 cases of burglary, theft and carjacking across the country was arrested in the national capital, police said Saturday.

Sleuths of Delhi Police's special staff arrested Bunty after he arrived in the city April 6 with plans to target a plush society of south Delhi.

According to police, the 'super thief', who was released last year from jail, had committed crimes in every part of the country.

A total of 42 cases of burglary and carjacking had already been registered against him in various police stations of Delhi, Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Chandigarh, Panchkula, Bombay, Kolkata, Bangalore, Vadodara and Hyderabad.

The culprit, who mostly stays in five-star hotels and travels only by air, has extended his network from Kashmir to Kanya Kumari, police said.

'Acting on a tip-off a trap was laid to nab the accused,' Deputy Commissioner of Police - Anil Shukla said.

'We have also recovered four stolen laptops, five white gold chains, one fake passport, and two luxury cars from his possession,' he added.
