Traffic snarls delay commuters in Delhi

New Delhi, Nov 24 - Commuters in the capital had a tough day Friday as they had to struggle through traffic jams because of religious processions held in various parts of Delhi.
The worst hit area was between Gurdwara Sisganj in the walled city and Gurdwara Rakaganj as the martyrdom day of Guru Teg Bahadur was observed.
Adding to the commuters' woes were jams caused by heavy traffic at the ongoing India International Trade Fair-2006 organised at Pragati Maidan.
'I got stuck in the jam at Pragati Maidan while going to ITO,' said Prachi Gupta, a software professional.
'We should have some law to regulate these rallies,' she added.
Another commuter Gaurav Yadav, who was stuck in a snarl at Connaught Place, said: 'Police should inform the commuters a day in advance so that they can take a different route to avoid such inconveniences.'
Meanwhile, Delhi Police had their hands full as they struggled to lessen the burden of vehicles on these roads.
'We have rules and regulation that rally organisers should adhere to. But protesters hardly follow these guidelines,' said Deputy Commissioner of Police - H.P.S. Virk.
