Two foreigners held for drug peddling, Pune link suspected

New Delhi, March 10 - Two Africans have been arrested here on charges of drug peddling and possessing a large amount of pure cocaine, with the police Saturday saying they might be linked to the Pune rave party of last week.
Tanzanian Nbabwa Ally Juma was arrested March 7 with 10 grams of pure cocaine from Mathura Road in south Delhi. He came to India in 2002 and was staying in a rented house at Mayur Vihar in east Delhi.
According to the police, Juma frequently visited Pune and his last trip was on March 2, putting him under suspicion on charges of supplying drugs to the rave party there March 4. Juma had graduated from the Bharati Vidyapeeth in Pune.
'His frequent trips to the city and his lavish lifestyle suggests he might have some links with the Pune bash,' said Deputy Commissioner of Police A.S. Cheema.
The Pune party of young IT professionals and students, including 29 girls and 12 foreigners, was cut short by undercover policemen in a pre-dawn swoop that landed 251 people behind bars.
The police also arrested Immanual Nnanta Akiko, said to be a Nigerian, with eight grams of cocaine from his Vasant Vihar residence in south Delhi.
Akiko had come to India for pursuing a postgraduate course. He was booked under the Foreigners Act.
'We are interrogating them to know the source of the drugs and whether both the accused had any links with each other,' Cheema added.
In a separate case, a man, Navin Pratap Singh, was detained from Mangolpuri in northwest Delhi with 1.5 kg of heroin worth Rs.150 million in the international market, the police said.
