New Delhi, May 19 - Defying stereotype good looks, models sported thick-rimmed glasses, school shoes and a scruffy look as 20 students of the National Institute of Fashion Technology - presented their collection at Fashionova 2007.

The event was part of the NIFT students graduating to fashion designers.

Showcasing Puja Shenoy's women's wear collection 'Malshez', models sported big-frame spectacles underlining the 'Ugly Betty' or the 'Jassi' look. Anushri Pandey, instead of using well-built male models chose lean and thin ones to display her men's wear collection 'Goddamn Electric'. The line emphasised the careless and tousled 'Mr. Beans' look.

One of the collections also drew inspiration from the lifestyle of Indian farmers, with dhoti-like trousers in earthy colours. The linen, cotton and silks used in the collection were layered and gathered for the dhoti and churidar look for trousers, teamed with collar-less shirts and jackets.

A three-dimensional futuristic line also grabbed much attention. Silk organza was gathered, pleated and layered to craft hallucinatory forms and cones and spikes. There was also casual women's wear, casual and formal men's wear, woven, hand and machine knit wear, teens wear and willowy wedding collection at the event Friday evening.

The collections were evaluated on the basis of innovation, concept interpretation and realization by a panel of experts from the fashion industry and academicians.

Senior professor and NIFT dean Bhupendra Singh and NIFT director general Indevar Pandey, were among the people present on the occasion held at the Ashoka Hotel.

Narresh Kukreja won the Ritu Kumar most creative award, Arun Kumar bagged the Kamal Chugh most deserving student award and the best garment construction award, Anushri Pandey won the Usha International award for best garment construction and Brijesh Dahiya walked away with the best use of traditional skills and contemporary styling award.

While Puja Shenoy grabbed the design excellence award, Saurabh Banka received the best design student award, Nneha Biswas won the best men's wear award, and the best women's wear award went to Priyal Prakash.
