[RxPG] New Delhi, Dec 17 - CALIBER-2007, a conference to focus attention on knowledge management and issues relevant to higher education and academic libraries, is being held at Panjab University Feb 8-10.
CALIBER stands for Convention on Automation of Libraries in Education and Research Institutions. It is being organised by the INFLIBNET Centre - in collaboration with the university.
Organisers said that one decade into its expansion, the World-Wide Web is reaching ever-broader circles of society, transforming how people learn about our rapidly changing world. Knowledge Management is being seen as the methodology for systematically gathering, organizing and disseminating knowledge.
It consists of processes and tools to effectively capture and share knowledge as well as use the knowledge of individuals within an organization.
Organisers point out that many argue that knowledge has become the main competitive tool for many businesses.
The Panjab University's Central Library is one of the largest libraries in the Indian subcontinent. Its five-storey building is centrally air-conditioned and has spacious reading halls and compact stack areas. Its collection totals nearly 600,000 volumes - rare and latest - and 600 current periodicals with their issues going as far back as the nineteenth century.
