Woman army officer's court-martial resumes Saturday

Chandigarh, April 27 - The general court martial - against retired Army officer Major Dimple Singla will resume Saturday when the prosecution will file its reply on the objections raised by her counsel regarding the jurisdiction of the GCM court.

Singla - the first woman Army officer to face a GCM - had retired March 7. She was in the Judge Advocate General - branch.

She is facing charges of corruption and misconduct. She has been accused of demanding money from accused army personnel in more than one case to help them in trial when she was serving on the JAG branch.

When her trial began here April 11, Singla's counsel raised objections regarding the order convening the GCM. Later he objected to the jurisdiction of the GCM court to try Singla.

At the last hearing 10 days ago, the prosecution had sought time to file a reply regarding the jurisdiction of the GCM court.
