Nov 28, 2006 - 4:51:54 AM

[RxPG] New Delhi, Nov 27 - The Delhi High Court Monday issued notice to Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss on a petition by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences - director seeking a copy of a report advising the government on who should head the premier body.

In the petition, AIIMS Director P. Venugopal has sought a copy of the M.S. Valiathan Committee report.

Ramadoss and Venugopal have been at loggerheads since May over a strike by resident doctors protesting the government's raising quotas for backward classes in premier educational institutes.

Issuing the notice, judge P. Anil Kumar directed the respondents to file their replies by Feb 22, 2007.

The high court has stayed till that date, the implementation of an AIIMS governing body recommendation for removing Venugopal.

The government had earlier this year constituted the Valiathan Committee to examine the issue of autonomy and administration of the institute.

Venugopal's counsel Maninder Singh submitted that the committee had, among other things, said that the health minister and the health secretary should not be in the governing body of the institute, and because of this, the government was not making the report public.

The high court had, last month, directed Singh to file an application seeking a copy of the report when counsel for the centre said this would not be provided to the petitioner.
