Former Uttar Pradesh bureaucrat dies, family alleges medical negligence

Jun 10, 2009 - 12:23:54 PM
UPIMA secretary M.A. Khan said: 'We will extend all possible help to Swaroop's family so that action can be taken against the doctors if they are found guilty.'

[RxPG] Lucknow, June 10 - Former Uttar Pradesh home secretary Mohan Swaroop died following a heart attack here and his family has blamed a private hospital for his death as it allegedly refused to admit him.

Swaroop, who was rushed to the Lifeline Hospital Tuesday after he suffered a heart attack, was denied admission and died while being taken to another hospital, say his family members.

'The doctors at the hospital just remained deaf to my pleas to admit my father, who at that time was conscious, but was having severe chest pain,' Swaroop's son Akshay told IANS.

'My mother also begged before the doctors... She asked them to make arrangements for an oxygen cylinder so that my father could be taken to another hospital. But the doctors went away and locked the main door,' he added.

Swaroop's family now plans to move court.

'We are consulting our lawyers to take legal action against the hospital staff,' Akshay said.

'We will also meet officials of the Uttar Pradesh Indian Medical Association - in this regard,' he added.

UPIMA secretary M.A. Khan said: 'We will extend all possible help to Swaroop's family so that action can be taken against the doctors if they are found guilty.'

Director of Lifeline Hospital Ashutosh Vashisth was not available for comment.
