HEAL Foundation is first Asian 'World Diabetes Day Champion'

Sep 28, 2012 - 4:50:53 PM

New Delhi, Sep 28 - Recognizing the constant efforts in improving diabetes awareness and prevention in India, International Diabetes Federation - has declared HEAL Foundation, a not-for-profit health awareness and advocacy group, this year's 'World Diabetes Day Champion'.

Putting India on the global map, HEAL Foundation is the first Asian organization to be listed among 20 champions.

It gives me immense pleasure that our hard work, approach and efforts in promoting diabetes care and awareness have been recognized by IDF, the most recognized body committed to raising global awareness on diabetes, said Swadeep Srivastava, principal consultant, HEAL Foundation.

It has given us new zeal and strength to continue our fight against diabetes with the purpose of raising public awareness on health issues and effecting desirable changes, he added.

IDF recognizes World Diabetes Day Champions globally on the bases of constant efforts in improving the health and well-being of future generations, promoting diabetes care and prevention and defending the interests of people with diabetes and those at risk.

Since 2010, HEAL Foundation has been constantly involved in raising diabetes awareness in people and taking up the issues in their entirety through its various awareness campaigns, activities and initiatives including Diabetes Blue Fortnight, Women 4 Diabetes Care, Doctors 4 Diabetes Care, walkathon, conferences and many more.

HEAL Foundation now aims to take its campaign to a greater extent by covering 15 cities with a wide variety of activities aimed at reaching out to and involving a large segment of the population affected by the ever-increasing diabetes epidemic. This year IDF will be joining with HEAL and the ministry of health and family Welfare in launching the campaign.
