New Delhi, May 14 - India continues to be free from influenza A- infection, commonly known as swine flu, but six people have been quarantined for suspected symptoms, health ministry officials said Thursday.
Six passengers who came from countries affected with swine flu have been kept under observation in government health facilities.
'So far samples of 52 persons have been tested and found negative for influenza A -. Samples of six persons are under testing. As of now, no case has been reported in India and the situation is being monitored,' a health ministry official said.
Health screening of passengers coming from affected countries is continuing in 21 international airports.
'Till date, about 490,000 passengers have been screened. A total of 202 doctors and 95 paramedics have been deployed to man 74 counters at the above airports,' the official said.
According to World Health Organization -, there are 6,497 laboratory confirmed cases of influenza A - infection from 33 countries and 65 people have so far died of the disease across the world.
