India free from swine flu, three under scanner in Delhi

New Delhi, May 12 - India continues to be free from influenza A- infection, popularly known as swine flu, but three passengers embarking at Delhi airport Tuesday and exhibiting symptoms have been quarantined, health ministry officials said.
The three passengers who came from countries affected with swine flu have been kept under observation in a government health facility in the capital.
'So far samples of 40 passengers, who arrived from flu affected countries, have been tested and found negative for influenza A -. As of now, no case has been reported in India and the situation is being monitored,' a ministry official said.
Screening of passengers coming from affected countries is continuing in 21 international airports.
'Till date, about 420,000 passengers have been screened. 185 doctors and 102 paramedics have been deployed to man 71 counters at the above airports,' the official said.
According to World Health Organization -, there are 5,251 laboratory confirmed cases of influenza A- infection from 30 countries and 61 people have so far died of the disease across the world.
