Swine flu case in Goa, another suspected

Panaji, June 11 - A confirmed case of swine flu has been reported in Goa while authorities have sent samples of another man, exhibiting symptoms of the disease, for testing, an official said Thursday.
Goa Health Secretary Sanjiv Srivastava said that one confirmed case of swine flu was reported Wednesday, while the health authorities had also kept another person suspected to be suffering from the disease under supervision Thursday morning.
'One patient who arrived in Goa from London via Germany has been identified as a confirmed case of swine flu. He has already been admitted to the isolation ward of the Chicalim cottage hospital,' Srivastava said.
Another person who is suspected of having swine flu had been taken to the Goa Medical College, near Panaji as the 21-year-old showed some symptoms of the disease, after alighting from a flight from Sharjah.
'The blood samples of the patient have been taken and sent to the National Institute of Virology - in Pune for examination,' health officials said.
The health authorities have screened nearly 10,000 incoming passengers at Goa's Dabolim airport since the outbreak was first reported internationally.
According to the latest WHO figures, 26,563 people in 73 countries have been infected with the virus so far. A total of 140 people have died since the outbreak of the disease. Most of the deaths occurred in Mexico, where the disease was first reported.
