f you are smoking 20 or more cigarettes a day, you are more likely to be impotent than others, according to a study.

Australian researchers led by Chris Millett studied over 8,000 men aged between 16 and 59 and asked them about erection problems. Almost one in 10 said they were troubled by impotence.

When compared with non-smokers, those who smoked up to 20 cigarettes a day were 24 percent more likely to report erection difficulties. And those smoking more than a pack a day were 39 percent more likely to report erectile difficulties, it reported.

"Whereas lung cancer and cardiovascular disease can feel distant, impotence may be a more immediate problem," Millett said.

Men who smoke 20 or more cigarettes a day should consider kicking the habit because almost 40 percent of them are more likely to be impotent, the study said.
