Impotence does not affect only older men, it could be a problem for young men too, says a new US study.

Researchers from the Children's Memorial Hospital and Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine, both in Chicago, studied 234 sexually active men aged 18-25, attending three Chicago universities.

Of the young men, 13 percent said they had experienced erectile dysfunction, but rarely discussed this with a doctor, reported health portal HealthCentral.

While, six percent had used erectile dysfunction medications, 57 percent said they used the drugs to treat erectile dysfunction, and 29 percent used them to enhance sexual performance.

Further, some college-going men were found using Viagra in tandem with alcohol or illegal recreational drugs, increasing the likelihood of spreading sexually transmitted diseases, the study, which is considered the first of its kind, concludes.
