Newly published by the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) Delivering Quality Diabetes Care in General Practice provides a comprehensive guide for all GPs aiming to provide the highest standards of care to their diabetic patients.
Written by Dr Roger Gadsby, a GP and Medical Advisor to Warwick Diabetes Care, the book focuses on the quality framework of the new GP contract covering in detail each of the 18 quality indicators. The background and evidence base from trials and guidelines is given along with pragmatic guidance on how to deliver care in order to fulfil the targets of the quality framework.
The chapters cover all the areas of the quality framework including smoking, glycaemic control, foot care, cholesterol and erectile dysfunction. Each chapter contains case histories along with clear information as to what action each GP practice can take towards improving their care for diabetic patients.
Writing in the foreword, Professor David Haslam, says: If like me, you struggle with keeping up to date in this complex condition, this book will provide almost everything that you need. General practice is the hardest medical specialty to do well. This book wonderfully illuminates the care of this complex, common and crucial condition.
Dr Mayur Lakhani, Chairman of RCGP, said I welcome this book which will be invaluable to practice teams to meet the requirements of the new GP contract. Diabetes is a common and complex condition it is difficult to manage well. This book shows a clear way forward
