The Mission is also the blue print for a comprehensive restructuring of the current health care strategy

The Union Health & Family Welfare Minister, Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss and the WHO Chief, Dr. Lee Jong-wook presented a copy of the World Health Report 2005 to the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh here this evening. The report was released in New Delhi in the morning at a function attended by international health professionals & health administrators. This year, WHO had chosen India as the venue for the global launch, keeping in mind the governments renewed effort to bring down Infant Mortality & Maternal Mortality Rates.

Speaking after presenting the report to the Prime Minister, the Union Health & Family Welfare Minister acknowledged the able and enlightened leadership of the Prime Minister in evolving the National Rural Health Mission to realize the commitment enshrined in the National Common Minimum Programme for improved public services. The Mission is also the blue print for a comprehensive restructuring of the current health care strategy, he said. The Minister hoped that with commitment and resolve and with your guidance we would definitely achieve the goals visualized in the Mission of providing quality health care to the vast rural population of India and make every mother and child count.
