India Discussed Bird Flu With Top Korean Scientists

The Minister for Health and Family Welfare, India, Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss today discussed with top scientists of South Korea measures to tackle the Bird flu already spreading in some European countries with the WHO sounding alarm to the South Asian nations. The discussions covered, alternative drugs to contain the avian flu and also development of a vaccine to prevent the same. Dr. Ramadoss who is in South Korea on a four-day visit was talking to top scientists at the International Vaccine Institute in Seoul.

The other topics he discussed with them include tackling new and emerging infections like pandemic influenza, SARS besides bird flu. Exchange of information on traditional systems of medicine also came up during his discussions with the scientists at the Institute.

The Minister also visited Histo-Stem, a pioneering Stem Cell Research centre of South Korea. Yesterday, he visited Dr. Kangs� Stem cell laboratory at the Seoul National University. He discussed with the scientists at the Histo-Stem Center, collaboration between the two countries in Stem-Cell research. Stem�Cell promises cure for many a ill and diseases. Dr. Ramadoss�s visit is expected to pave the way for bringing about a greater synergy between human resource capital and technological capacitates of the two countries to jointly tackle health related problems, which will not only be mutually beneficial, but the entire humanity.
