[RxPG] Kathmandu, March 19 - When India lost to minnows Bangladesh in the World Cup, the tremors of the shock defeat were felt in far away Nepal with 12 Indians and a Nepali associate arrested for operating a betting racket.
The men were taken into custody by Kathmandu police Saturday night from Casino Nepal, the kingdom's oldest casino. They were allegedly running a betting operation targeting mainly the Indian guests who wanted to have a flutter on the World Cup.
Besides Rajendra Pandey of Nepal, the Indian punters were identified as Rohit Ansari, Raghubir Agrawal, Shankar Agrawal, D.M. Patel, Ananda Bhai, J.N. Goyal, Sanjay Manjil, Nandakishore Sharma, Sanjay Manjil, Mahesh Thola and Dilip Aswalin.
Police also seized a computer, a laptop, seven telephones, a TV set and betting-related documents, the report said.
The men were hurriedly destroying the files when police raided the room just outside the casino. The documents contained the names of about 500 betters, Superintendent of Police Rajendra Man Shrestha told IANS.
