[RxPG] Kathmandu, April 11 - Indian ambassador Shiv Shankar Mukherjee met Nepal Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala Wednesday to discuss India's assistance for the upcoming election and other political developments.

The envoy held discussions with the premier for nearly half an hour at Koirala's official residence in the capital.

Besides the constituent assembly election on June 20, New Delhi is also concerned about the growing unrest in the Terai plains just across the Indian border.

A section of Nepal's media, parties and civil society organisations have been blaming the 'Indian hand' for the violence in the plains.

Besides local leaders in the neighbouring Indian states of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, Hindu 'extremists' from India are being blamed for the turmoil that has killed over 60 people so far.

Nepal also blames India for the nearly two-decade-old festering Bhutanese refugee problem. Over 100,000 Bhutanese have been languishing in refugee camps in southern Nepal with the Bhutan government refusing to allow them re-entry.

While the refugees have been trying from time to time to storm their way back to Bhutan, they have been blocked by the Indian police on the India-Nepal border.

India is also being accused of building 'dams' near the Nepal border without consulting Kathmandu though the constructions could lead to the submergence of Nepal villages.

In recent days, the Nepali media has also been frequently reporting about Indian border security forces crossing over and 'misbehaving' with their villagers.
