Three Asian climbers die on Everest

Kathmandu, May 17 - Three Asian climbers died while summitting Mt Everest, the tallest peak in the world, news reports said Thursday.
While two South Koreans were killed Wednesday, a Japanese died a day earlier, a few steps from the 8,848 m high summit.
Oh Hee-joon, 37, and Lee Hyun-jo, 35, both members of a South Korean expedition, died after being hit by falling rocks while attempting to scale Mt Everest from the southwest. The two climbers died on the way to the summit, between 7,700 m to 8,300 m. The expedition was led by famed climber Park Young-seok, who has conquered all the 14 mountains in the world towering over 8,000 m.
A third climber with a different expedition team, a 62-year-old from Tokyo, died from unspecified causes Tuesday.
The Japanese, who was not named immediately, was attempting Mt Everest from Tibet as part of an expedition organised by Tokyo's Adventure Guides company.
The team leader, Yoshitomi Okura, phoned the agency from Nepal Tuesday morning saying the man had collapsed after taking a few steps down from the summit.
Though a Sherpa gave him a heart massage, the climber could not be revived and his body was left buried in snow near the peak.
With the three deaths, the Everest toll this season goes up to four.
Last month, a high-altitude porter and guide Dawa Sherpa died on the way to the Everest, falling into a crevasse.
Three more climbers have perished on another Himalayan slope, Mt Dhaulagiri.
