Pakistan, England settle issue of contentious Test

Lahore, March 26 - The cricket boards of Pakistan and England have reached an amicable settlement following the compensation claim by the latter after the forfeiture of the Oval Test match in August in 2006.
It was agreed by both the boards that the proposed tour of Pakistan by England in 2010 would be postponed until January-February 2012, said a press release by the Pakistan Cricket Board - Monday. The England tour to Pakistan will comprise three Test Matches and five one-day nternationals.
Pakistan will reciprocate with a tour of England in late June, July and August in 2012 and will play three Test Matches and five one-dayers.
In addition to those matches the PCB has agreed to play a non-reciprocal Twenty20 International during their tour to England and shall waive the right to a fee for this match to settle the Oval Test compensation claim.
'The meetings with PCB demonstrated the goodwill and desire of both boards to find a cricketing solution to the issues arising from the Oval Test Match,' said David Collier, chief executive of the England and Wales Cricket Board -.
'Both Boards were concerned that the timescale in the Future Tours Programme allocated for England 's tour to Pakistan in 2010 would include a tour of three Test matches and five one-day internationals as scheduled,' he added.
'Rescheduling the tour results in a significantly lighter schedule for our players in 2010.'
Earlier, the ECB had asked for around dollar 1.3 million - to cover its losses after Pakistan refused to resume playing on the fourth day of the match. The board refunded all fifth-day ticket-holders and also gave a 40 percent reimbursement to the 23,000 in the ground on day of the abandonment.
England will now tour Bangladesh in 2010 instead of 2012 and will play two Test matches and three one-dayers.
'The non-reciprocal Twenty20 International to be played in 2012 is of great benefit to the ECB and we are pleased that a cricketing solution has been found to this problem,' said Collier.
Upon confirmation of these arrangements, ECB shall withdraw its compensation claim in respect of the Oval Test Match made Sep 29.
