Pakistan names new junior cricket selection panel
Apr 21, 2007 - 5:43:34 PM

Lahore, April 21 - The Pakistan Cricket Board - Saturday appointed a new six-man paid junior national selection committee as part of an overhaul following the World Cup debacle.

Naushad Ali is chairman of the panel that also includes Aftab Baloch, Azhar Khan, Mohsin Kamal, Arshad Khan and Mudassar Nazar, who is a co-opted member, the PCB announced here. The members will be paid salaries, like the senior panel committee.

'They have been appointed for a tenure of two years as a full-time, paid selection committee and will be responsible for selecting all junior cricket teams -,' it said in a statement.

Two days ago the PCB had announced the senior selection committee, headed by Salahuddin Ahmad, a former Test off-spinner.

Pakistan had a disastrous World Cup where the team crashed out in the first round itself after losing two of the three matches.

Then their coach Bob Woolmer died a day after Pakistan shockingly lost to minnows Ireland in a group match that led to their exit.

After the World Cup, the PCB retrenched its 80 employees, and overhauled the complete set-up. But the replacements are not exactly new, as many of the people appointed now have also worked for the board in different capacities earlier.
