CPI-ML to urge Kalam to disqualify Shahabuddin from Lok Sabha

Patna, May 13 - Communist Party of India-Marxist Leninist - leaders will meet the president and the Lok Sabha speaker May 16 to seek termination of Rashtriya Janata Dal - MP Mohammad Shahabuddin's membership of parliament following his conviction in a criminal case.
Shahabuddin, who has 52 criminal cases registered against him, was awarded life sentence Tuesday in a case involving the kidnapping and murder of a CPI-ML activist eight years ago.
'A group of CPI-ML leaders along with people of Siwan will meet President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee on May 16 to seek termination of Shahabuddin's membership from parliament following his conviction,' CPI-ML general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya said here.
He said if the MPs caught in the cash-for-query scam could be disqualified from the membership of the Lok Sabha, the same could be done for Shahabuddin too.
The CPI-ML has also decided to stage protests before parliament in New Delhi to press its demand for making public the 100-page special note prepared by the Bihar police on Shahabuddin that has pointed out that the notorious criminal-turned-politician had links with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, Kashmiri militants and Pakistan's intelligence agency ISI.
Police said the note on the criminal and anti-social activities of Shahabuddin was submitted to the Bihar government in 2003 but neither the government led by Rabri Devi of RJD nor its successor, the 17-month-old Nitish Kumar government, acted on it or made it public.
The note was prepared by then Bihar director general of police - D.P. Ojha, who had demanded tough action against Shahabuddin after submitting the report.
But the Rabri Devi government silenced Ojha by removing him from the post of DGP a day after he submitted the note. It was Ojha who warned the government that Shahabuddin would flee to Pakistan if he was not arrested.
