Lucknow, May 12 - Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister-designate Mayawati is expected to call on Governor T.V. Rajeshwar Saturday evening to formally stake claim to form the next government after her Bahujan Samaj Party -'s thumping win in the assembly elections.

Saturday morning saw her 206 newly-elected members making a beeline to offer obeisance to the party supremo at her residence here. They later assembled at the party's state headquarters just behind the Raj Bhavan for a meeting.

While most of the 206 members had driven down to Lucknow from their respective destinations on Friday, the others arrived in the morning for the meeting.

It is widely believed that Mayawati would be sworn in as the chief minister either Sunday or on Monday, when the term of the outgoing state assembly expires.

Constitutional experts are of the view that ideally the new assembly must meet immediately after the expiry of the preceding assembly.

Party sources claimed that Mayawati had expressed her desire to be sworn in before a mammoth audience at the sprawling Ambedkar Maidan - which she had created after carving out a large chunk of land from the Lucknow district jail during her second stint as the state chief minister in 1997. The ground is Lucknow's biggest field and could comfortably accommodate up to half a million people.
