PM's intervention sought against offensive appraisal form

New Delhi, April 12 - Senior Communist Party of India-Marxist - leader Brinda Karat Thursday urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to withdraw the controversial appraisal form for the civil service officers having gender insensitive references.
In a letter to Manmohan Singh, Karat, referring to the enquiry of intimate details sought from female officers, asked him to take appropriate action to withdraw the 'offensive' form.
'Under the All India Services - Rules 2007 form-IV - enquiry of intimate details of female officers have been introduced as a column in the said form,' she said in the letter.
'I believe that this is reflective of a high degree of insensitivity towards females officers on the part of authorities responsible for this form. Moreover such details are not at all required for the job profile,' the Rajya Sabha MP said in her letter.
Media reports had suggested that the All India Services Performance Appraisal Rules 2007 has asked women officers to record their last menstrual period as well as when they had last taken maternity leave, etc.
However, Minister of State for Personnel Suresh Pachouri has told IANS that the government would review the evaluation form and remove the 'intrusive' questions from it.
