Some parents give an overdose of medicines to their sick children, says a new study.

Australian researchers compiled through more than 70 studies published worldwide in the past 20 years and found that parents medicate more than half of children suffering from fever incorrectly, says the online edition of Time magazine.

Such parents were uncertain about the child's normal temperature and believed that if a little medicine was good, more must be better.

The researchers found that some parents administered different medicines simultaneously if one didn't seem to be effective immediately.

It found that the percentage of parents giving their children overdoses - doses either too high or too frequent - has increased dramatically in recent years
